Thanksgiving Includes Worship

What does it truly mean to give thanks? This Thanksgiving-focused message challenges us to move beyond the holiday traditions we love and rediscover thanksgiving as an act of worship. Drawing from the story of Noah in Genesis 8, we are invited to consider what it looked like for a man and his family to step off an ark after 375 days of confinement, surrounded by uncertainty, an empty world, and an overwhelming list of urgent tasks, and choose worship as the very first response. That single detail is striking and worth sitting with. Noah did not wait until life was settled or comfortable. He built an altar before he built a shelter. The spiritual lesson here runs deep: genuine thanksgiving is not a feeling that arises when circumstances are favorable. It is a posture of the heart that turns toward God first, in good seasons and hard ones alike. We are reminded that everything we have, from our health to our families to the country we were born in, is not something we earned but something we received by grace. When we begin to see our lives through that lens, gratitude stops being a seasonal habit and starts becoming a daily rhythm of worship.
